Culture & Leadership Notes #3 ๐Ÿ””

How do you create a harmonious team?

I think itโ€™s the wrong question (IMO)โ—๏ธ

Hereโ€™s why over-emphasising harmony can be counterproductive.

A culture of agreeableness stifles innovation, problem solving, and growth.

- A pursuit of harmony can lead to a culture where ๐™–๐™˜๐™˜๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™–๐™—๐™ž๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฎ is ignored (huge team demotivator!)

- A "happy family" ethos fosters a culture where genuine emotions and concerns are masked, leading to

But if not harmony, then what?

High EQ leaders create an environment of

They believe:

Healthy disagreement can ๐™˜๐™ค-๐™š๐™ญ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ฉ with a positive workplace atmosphere ๐Ÿคฒ

We must leave ๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ง๐™จ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ก ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ฉ๐™–๐™˜๐™ ๐™จ to one side when disagreeing โŒ

There must be a ๐™œ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ช๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™š attempt to actively listen and seek othersโ€™ perspective โ˜บ๏ธ

You should always bring it back to the ๐™จ๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™š๐™™ ๐™ฅ๐™ช๐™ง๐™ฅ๐™ค๐™จ๐™š and common goal ๐Ÿ†

- Disagreements are not about ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™–๐™ง๐™œ๐™ช๐™ข๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™จ, itโ€™s about shared solutions ๐Ÿง

Most importantly, we must have the humility to admit when wrong and be willing to change opinion.

Healthy disagreements doesnโ€™t jeopardise team chemistry, it solidifies it.

Thatโ€™s when I think we get purposeful, energised, and accountable teams.
