What separates Amazon leadership principles from most companies values?

What separates Amazon Web Services (AWS) 17 leadership principles from most companies values?โ€จ
Most company values are displayed on a glossy wall, but not really lived in reality.

However, I think Amazon's 17 Leadership Principles diverge from typical company values (and the process for building them).

What I like about these 17 principles are how theyโ€™re intentionally designed, serving as a ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป-๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ for the business.ย โ€จ
All centred around their core focus: ๐ŸŽฏ

Customer obsession, and its mission: ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ ๐˜Œ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ฉโ€™๐˜ด ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ต ๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ-๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜บ.

The tenets donโ€™t only clarify ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต, they describe ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ in a few sentences.ย Enough nuance, but not too much. โ€จ

Perhaps though, the ingenuity lies in how it's anchored in history. You can trace the principles back to Jeff Bezosโ€™ first letter to stakeholders in 1997.

Iโ€™m pretty sure this artifactual letter isn't a side note. It's an intentional anchor that connects employees, and stakeholders, at an emotional level ๐Ÿคฒ

The principles are a clear statement of intent. This is the way we do things around here...โ€จ


...โ€œunless you have another wayโ€.ย A mantra that sits alongside the principles ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผโ€จ


An invitation to challenge, contribute, and innovate, encapsulated by the tenet to "๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฌ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ".
